Valve details how it works and asks developers to implement it for a better experience.
Valve continues to work on delivering the best possible Steam Deck experience in February, and that includes a save system with dynamic synchronization with Cloud so players can move their game from portable hardware to another device on the fly, without waiting or leaving the game.
“We anticipate that users will suspend their Steam Deck frequently without leaving the game, as is common with other portable gaming devices. With Dynamic Sync to Cloud, users can choose to play on another device (whether it’s a computer or another Steam Deck) and their progress will be waiting for them“, they explain. In this way, Steam will automatically upload all modified save game data to the cloud before the device goes into sleep mode.
In case you’re wondering, this cloud storage is free although it is up to developers to enable it in their titles. “Taking advantage of this feature is not a requirement for players to enjoy their game on Steam Deck, but we recommend its use in order to provide the best possible experience for users,” said the company headed by Gabe Newell in a statement.
However, even if the system is not implementedsystem is not implemented, Steam Deck will still be able to record when saved game data changes on the handheld. However, any user who suspends their Deck when a game is running will first have to return to Steam Deck to close it and save the corresponding game.
Launching Steam Deck
“Despite the global pandemic, supply shortages and shipping issues,” Valve promised a few weeks ago no further delays in Steam Deck distribution, with the first shipments of the hardware expected to start arriving in February. Since then, the company has been working to make it easy for everyone to know which video games can run on the handheld with a verified system.
