Samsung unveils Galaxy S22 family, with AMD-signed GPU, S Pen and five-year upgrade

Samsung has announced a few moments ago the new Galaxy S22 range, a family of high-end devices that is renewed without altering the fundamentals, although with some interesting changes. Composed of three models (Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra) it also has a dual purpose, since in addition to crowning the most generalist catalog of the company, it replaces the Galaxy Note by incorporating its own S Pen stylus integrated into the body of the phone.

The technical specs are once again very notable, if not outstanding. There are new Dynamic AMOLED5 2X displays with higher brightness (peaks of 1,300 nits on the S22 and 1,750 nits on the S22+/Ultra), the latest in cameras and state-of-the-art 4nm processors. This last section is perhaps the most noteworthy, since depending on the market Samsung will offer its new phone with a chipset Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or an Exynos 2200 with high-performance AMD RDNA 2 graphics.

For the sake of organization and clarity, we put Samsung’s official infographics to detail the datasheets of each model:

Visually speaking there are no major surprises, although all models benefit from a new construction that dispenses with plastic in favor of a Gorilla Glass Victus+ glass back sheet. The base Galaxy S22 is also much more compact than usual, thanks to a small 6.1-inch display with minimal bezels. The most aesthetically differentiated is the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which features a unique camera.

This extraordinary photographic module consists of four sensors: a very bright 108 MP sensor, a 12 MP ultra wide-angle lens and two telephoto lenses with the ability to zoom in three and ten times, respectively. It is noteworthy that all sensors are suspended in stabilization systems to avoid shaking. The front camera also ventures really good, with 40 MP.

We can end the technical information by stating that Samsung has announced that the Galaxy S22 will benefit from up to four generations of Android updates and the One UI interface, as well as five years of security patches. This update program extends to the Galaxy S21, the Fold3 and Flip3, future Galaxy A (not all) and Galaxy Tab S8 and later tablets.
