During halftime of the AFC Championship Game, the soccer game that determines the American Conference champion going into the Super Bowl, a new trailer for the Halo TV series has been shown. The footage reveals some surprising details about the story and confirms that in the United States and Latin America the series will be available on Paramount + on March 24. This service of streaming does not exist in Spain, so for the moment we do not know when or on what platform Halo will be available in our territory.
The trailer shows that the Halo series shares the basic concepts of the universe created by Bungie and even the look is faithful to his work, but the narrative will be somewhat different from what we have seen in video games over 20 years. For example, there are more Spartans than we might expect, The Prophets appear very quickly and everything seems to indicate that the one responsible for discovering the Halo ring is the Master Chief. In short, there are several things in the trailer of the series that narratively do not match in any way with what is explained in the games.
A few days ago 343 Industries, the new home of the Halo franchise, talked about the creation of the Silver Timeline, a chronological axis with a unique take on the Halo universe that has many key canon elements and encompasses everything explained over the past two decades, but with important contextual elements and narrative details that diverge. The development team believes that these changes are necessary to adapt the story to a new medium such as television.
With the Silver Timeline, 343 Industries creates an independent timeline while keeping the main canon experienced in first-person in the games unchanged. Playing in the Master Chief’s shoes is not the same as watching his story from the couch.
Back to the trailer, its footage shows us Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) facing two Elite (sangheilis), at which point it seems that for an instant the camera adopts the first-person point of view as in the games, and the artificial intelligence Cortana appears for the first time with the voice of Jen Taylor (as in the games). We also see Dr. Catherine Halsey (Natascha McElhone), who talks about the Master Chief as the only weapon against The Pact. “It’s lethal, upgradeable, and most importantly, controllable,” Halsey says.
