Many of us had convinced ourselves that the handheld consoles were a thing of the past. These types of machines had their heyday many years ago, and the popularity of recent desktop consoles, as well as the dominance of PC and mobile devices (with big companies getting their heads in the game), left a complicated scenario.

However, things changed, largely thanks to Nintendo Switch, with an unbeatable hybrid proposition that has triggered the existence of Steam Deck. But it has also been so thanks to the cloud gamingwhich makes it possible to run games on devices that, without streaming, would not be able to play them. Y Qualcomm wants the industry to continue down that path.

It’s aimed at devices that want to run games in the cloudThe company has launched its new Snapdragon G3xa product that is closely related to all this. It is a chip designed specifically for use in future handheld consoles, but with a difference: it tries to offer guarantees for devices that want to run games in the cloud.

These devices can be both mobile and consoles. In fact, the firm has teamed up with Razer to create a Handheld Developer Kita portable console that serves as a reference for manufacturers who want to bet on streaming video games and titles published on Android.

They have presented a portable console to be used by developersIt has a 5G modem with mmWave support, ability to use 120 Hz OLED displays with HDRWi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, in addition to the ability to use a webcam with 1080p resolution for live video games while we are at the controls.

It has the Snapdragon Sound integration, the audio technology of the brand, but also with a advanced haptic system which aims to trap us with a high sense of immersion. Finally, it has a 6000 mAh battery and a USB-C port for connecting monitors or add-ons.

It is the developers who are the first lucky ones to be able to test this new Snapdragon G3x, so we will have to wait to glimpse the use made of it by the first devices that have the technology. In the meantime, the closest hardware is Steam Deckwhich has been delayed to 2022 due to the general lack of supplies.
